TELL US ABOUT YOUR FLYING EFFECTS

Burnt Toast SFX specialises in designing and building custom flying systems, uniquely tailored to each effect. Our bespoke no-wire flying effects give the ultimate wow factor and some incorporate motorised or hydraulic elements. For added impact, we also integrate animatronics into select effects. Unlike traditional wired flying systems that can be expensive and time-consuming to install, our ‘invisible’ technology leaves audiences in awe, wondering, “Are the performers really flying?!”

Safety is our highest priority. Every flying effect undergoes extensive testing, followed by independent verification and certification. All our flying effects receive a LOLER inspection every six months.

Clients are provided with a comprehensive set of RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and participate in pre-production meetings before each installation. We also supply detailed maintenance check documentation, along with daily and weekly log templates for the client’s staff to complete.

Upon delivery, our experienced team trains venue staff and client operators — including radio control operators — on all safety procedures, operational details, and manual handling processes. For effects featuring 360° rotation, we conduct performer training at our workshops before the installation. For other effects, performer training typically takes place on-site at the venue.

Before issuing an installation certificate, we ensure all operator and performer checklists are thoroughly completed.

Yes! While large-scale productions have more space for elaborate rigs, many compact systems can be adapted for smaller venues. Solutions like performer-assisted flight, tracked flying, or illusion-based effects can create the same magical impact with less space.

The cost of hiring and building flying effects varies based on factors such as the effect itself, its size and scale, the level of automation, the hire duration, the production’s location, and other considerations. We provide a variety of options suitable for productions of all scales, from intimate venues to large West End shows. Contact us for more details and to explore the best solution for your needs.

Yes, performers are required to complete flight training with our professional staff. This training covers movement control, aerial awareness, and emergency procedures to ensure both safety and confidence. Depending on the effect used, training may take place at our workshops before the get-in or installation, or directly at the venue.

Certainly. We discuss your enquiry via email followed by an in-depth phone call where we agree exactly what effect you are looking for.

We discuss budgets and give you options for what can be achievable with your idea in mind. The Burnt Toast team will then scale, size and design your effect on our online software if we haven’t got anything similar in stock. It is then generated on a 3D simulator to show you what your effect will look like on your stage.

Once agreed and you are happy, we go to contract and our team of creators will get working on building your effect as soon as possible. We keep in communication with you throughout the whole process so that no stone is left unturned.

After health and safety documents are sent over to you, a pre-production Zoom meeting is then arranged between Burnt Toast and your company, including your producer, your radio control and lead operators, your tech manager/stage manager, and your lighting designer. This is where we firmly agree on dates and locations for your production so that our team can arrange travel and accommodation and so that you can feel reassured that we are handling your effect efficiently.

Any questions will be answered in this meeting. Shortly after, pre-production training is arranged. Finally, we deliver your effect and install it in your space making sure that you and your team are happy with it and feel confident in handling it during your production.

We are still available and accessible should you need us at this time and before we pick up the effect on the get-out of your production.

If needed, we arrange pre-production training for performers to ensure everything runs smoothly. Throughout the hire period, our team remains available to answer any questions or provide support.

We are currently taking bookings up to and including 2028, so do get in touch as soon as you are able for either hires or builds.

To support and make each client happy! It is paramount that each of our clients, big or small feels supported from the first enquiry to the final day of hire. We are always at the end of an email, phone call or video call.
